   If you’re like me, and are looking to try your hand at becoming a laptop dj Numark provides a great line of products for you. However, be warned, not every product may be for you. The Numark “Stealth Control” and “Omni Control” are pretty much the same deck, however if you do your research, you will realize that there’s a slight, yet very important difference!

   The layout of the two decks is exactly the same, except for the fact that the Omni Control, comes with a digital soundcard built into the deck that the Stealth Control does not. The reason for this is that the Stealth Control was designed for those who are upgrading their old decks and already have a USB Soundcard such as the Numark I/O USB soundcard. This Soundcard is used to be able to hear the music you see on your laptop through your headphones and you can plug a microphone in and connect it to a set of external speakers. If you just want to be able to listen to your mixes you can purchase a cheap USB External soundcard for less than a dollar, however if you want the one designed by Numark, you need to be prepared to pay $100+ for the Numark I/O or you could just fork up the other $100 and buy the Numark Omni Control instead of the Stealth Control as the Omni Control comes with this soundcard already built in.

   Definately not a toy. The minute you take it out of the box you can feel how durable it is. It has a hard metal coating painted in a fine black shiny coat. I bought this product through The Guitar Center for $257. It included a rebate that you can mail to Numark and recieve a free pair of Numark PHX headphones (a 200 dollar value!)    The Jog Wheels: The jog wheels have 2 features: Pitch/tempo control, and scratch. In order to scratch when the deck is playing, you must press the scratch button (will light when on). If the scratch button in not on while the deck is playing, the jog wheel will automatically act as a pitch/tempo control. Be careful, the jog wheels are SENSITIVE!. If the scratch button is lit, the slightest bump of the jog wheels will do a whole lot! I recommend not having the the scratch button on unless you are scratching, and using the crossfader to scratch (if used correctly, the crossfader will stop accidental scratching)

   Buttons: Each deck is equipped with a play button (press again to pause),set cue, play cue, pause cue, loop, pitch bend, key, sync, delay tap, efffects on/off, select, scratch, load track, preview, reloop, and interlock. (31 buttons total). With the advanced programming of the software and hardware, once you have the software running, you don’t need to touch your computer again. The Stealth control contains buttons an knobs so that you can scroll through, select, and load tracks right from the controller!

   Faders: The Stealth Control contains five faders: The crossfaders, volume control, and pitch control. Be sure that even if the fader volume is up, make sure that all the knobs that control volume are also up.

   Knobs: 20 knobs are included on the Stealth Control. In the effects section we have parameter 1 and parameter 2. These adjust the first and second parameter of the sleected effects. FX AMT- this knob adjusts how much of the selected effect will be mixed into the master mix. In the global section we have the search/play knob, which allows you to search through the preview player. The search knob, and the fine pitch knobs are the last two.

   Each deck has 4 audio knobs, which are bass, mid, treble, and gain. Each deck shares master volume control, ph mix control, and ph volume control. The big knob in the center of the controller allows you to scroll through tracks.

   The Numark Stealth Control DJ Performance Controller works great for me. The Tracktor LE software has 2 demo songs already uploaded. You can import music from itunes, or any other folder on your computer that contains audio files. I highly reccommend this product. for 257 dollars and a free pair of headphones, it does what it should do and much more.    First of all, let me say that I own just about about every DJ style midi device including but not limited to Hercules, M-Audio Xponenet, and Connectiv, etc…this item stacks up well given it’s price. First of all the buttons feel pretty solid, even if the knobs are just plastic, it doesn’t really seem to take away from it. The aluminum case feels sturdy and well built, and the performance with both Tracktor (not the demo version) as the included Mixmeister are more than acceptable. It’s true, as as others have commented that there is some pretty annoying setups to get the LED’s to works (on Traktor), but you can google for the .tmk file which others have already mapped out the device. Again, for the price, this is a good investment. Remember, no sound card for this device, so you’ll need to invest in either a numark DJIO or some other external soundcard to be able to cue up through your headphones. Some have suggested the $10 usb style soundcard…not sure if it works, but if so makes for a simple solution.

   Ok, so let’s get this straight first:
   
   1. Traktor Le, the program that comes with the Numark Stealth is a DEMO program that if not activated will only run for 30 minutes. Even if you activate it, it still is NOTHING compared to Traktor PRO. So, using it TWO days before your gig, like another guy who critiqued it, is not enough time to practice anyway. you should have prepared…

   2. This IS NOT a “Plug and Play” Unit. You need to go into the drivers and INSTALL THEM.
   
   This is the first midi controller I have bought for professional DJing purposes and I made this mistake, but I
   
   installed the drivers and now everything works PERFECTLY. I TOO thought that I was gonna have to return it, but it’s not just going to light up automatically, because it is MIDI.

   I absolutely LOVE this controller. It feels solid, durable, has rubber knobs and faders (not cheap plastic) and has tons of buttons and infinite knobs.

   I DJ regularly at large parties and local club venues.
   
   It doesn’t have a built in sound card, but for only $90 more I suggest getting the Native Instruments Audio DJ2 so you can cue up music through your headphones with awesome quality… 30x better than getting the OMNI, which is the same controller w Built In soundcard.

   There are LOTS of forums online filled with people willing to help newcomers with this controller. Trust me, I’ve needed the help transitioning in to the digital dj world.

   I TOTALLY and ENTIRELY recommend this to ANYONE looking for a durable, well thought out controller.

   Started playing with this equipment as soon as I received it (which arrived in ample time as promised) and found it to be very effective with what I expected it to do. It still amazes me how much control I have and can do to provide fun, great-sounding music!
