I bought this item a few months ago with the idea to assist or replace my dual cd mixer player. It has become the perfect companion to tie into the cd mixer and it will give the ability to not have to burn hundreds of cd’s for all the different productions I do, I can just copy, delete, drag and drop etc.Kingston 4 GB Class 4 SDHC Flash Memory Card SD4/4GBThe new units do handle the newer HD SD cards, that the manual says does not.

What a “little jewel” is waht I thought when I first saw this unit. It saved me. At a function, where I was to play an hour of samples by regional bands, an inebriated lady managed to destroy my computer and backup player at the last minute. I had just recived the SD player and, as an afterthought, before setting out, I had loaded my program on a Sandisk SDHC 4GB extreme III card. With only a short time to spare, without reading the instructions, I had it out of the box, shoved the card in, powered on and had it playing only a few seconds late. It is now my primary player and my computer stays in its case. Somebody put a LOT of thought into designing this magnificent little machine-it has everything, yet is simple to operate. The instructions need updating they say no SDHC but the machine slots clearly say “SDHC” It takes two 4GB cards and that is over 2000 average songs at near CD quality (it is MP3 only) and more cards could be programed. I would always use fast cards-say 15MB/s or higher. Also, for a large amount of songs use folders-much faster I learned. The only fault I see is that it has a small plug-in transformer for power which I did not want bouncing around in my rack and I straped to a rack mounted outlet in the back of my rack case. This SD player is an absolute masterpiece of engineering.

I’m giving the SDJ-1 four stars only because I haven’t had time to determine its durability. With respect to its functionality, I’m impressed. The SDJ-1 is a logical successor to dual-CD players and, like them, requires some organization with respect to the location of individual songs. While computers and the appropriate software can make routine DJing pretty effortless, the SDJ-1 feels as though you’re working like a real DJ. Cueing up songs is practically instantaneous, unlike CDs, and, with two 4GB SD cards, hundreds of songs are readily available, even if originally ripped at a high bit rate. So far, I’ve had no problem with Class 4 SD cards and tunes ripped at 256 kbit/s. I’ve ordered a Class 6 SD card from Amazon and will see how the SDJ-1 handles 320 kbit/s MP3s. I’d prefer to use the highest quality audio that’s possible. Sure hope this thing holds up, as I’m really enjoying using it.

Pros: Best use with High Capacity SD Cards or High Speed SD Cards.. 133x or more! in order to read 128kbps or higher bit rates. I used 8GB, 4GB and 2GB and works just fine.
Cons: To work with a normal SD Cards “any brand or speed less than the HC ones”, all songs need to be in 128kbps bit rate, otherwise you will hear jumps while the song is playing and eventually will shut off the unit (won’t recognize the card) till you turned on again.

This player is great, load all of your (mp3) songs on SD cards and play away. It has all of the right features for a great price. As a first time buyer I almost bought a dual CD player. But after buying this SD player I see no reasons to ever use a CD player. Plus finding all of your music folders and songs is quick and easy. If you are thinking of buying this SD player, do it.
