  1. I am a radio dj and also spin on the weekends, and was in need of a good replacement pair for my sony headphones. I saw these in a whole bunch of magazines and websites and ordered them. Cool style, good reviews. These headphones are not good at all. Muddy sound , followed with light distortion if you turn them up to get over crowd noise. I am returning them and would not suggest these headphones to anyone who needs good sound in and outside of the studio.

  3. I ordered the Audio Technica headphones on May 2nd, they shipped on May 6th, and I received them on May 12th. It took a long 4 days for them to be shipped, I was anxious beyond belief when they finally arrived here today.

I’ll start first off with the packaging. The box has an odd design, it has pull-tabs; very similar to those that you would find on a Chinese take-out box. There is English AND Japanese text on the box, a very obvious indicator that the product is Japanese made. The packaging, though very simple, was very intriguing to me.

When I opened the pull-tab box, I was somewhat disappointed with how the inside was put together. The headphones were just put inside a bubble wrap envelope, and stuck in the box. The little bit of paperwork included was just tossed in at the bottom.

When I took the headphones out of the box, I was suprised at how light they were. I was expecting something a little bit heavier. The build quality is decent, the only worries I have would be the sliders getting folded over on themselves or the outside exposed wiring getting nicked. I see cheaper headphones that have the wiring on the inside instead of the outside, and I wondered to myself, “Why couldn’t Audio Technica do the same?” The earcups are pretty well sized, a tiny bit too small for me as I have dumbo ears. I can wear the headphones for about an hour or so then my ears ache a little bit. Not too big of a problem, I take breaks from listening to my music quite frequently.

On to the important part, the actual sound quality. Here is where the headphones earned back some of the points negated for the somewhat tacky design. The sound quality is pretty damn good for a $50 pair of headphones. The lows are deep and thunderous, the highs are shiny and attention getting. I tested the headphones out through different genres of music; metal, techno, trance, ska, reggae, rap, industrial, pop, and good old rock’n'roll. The headphones managed to hit a home run with each genre. I also tested them out with some anime episodes, and I am pleased to say that I am impressed. The background noise is at just the right level, and the focal audio is direct and crisp.

Overall, these Audio Technica headphones get 4/5 stars from me. The amazing sound quality makes up for the somewhat uncomfortable and fragile design. If you are looking for a $50 pair of headphones and you have smaller ears, these are what you are looking for.

  4. They sound great, but the cans are too small so they sit on even normal sized ears causing discomfort after a few hours.

  5. Alright, when I first got the headphones 4 months ago, I loved them and have ever since. Great sound, absolutely great. But then one evening, the left headphone cut out. I hadn’t been using them roughly either. Perhaps a problem with weak components?
